Focus Group Brazil

In December 2007 and in March 2009 Caroline arranged a Focus Group with our Brazilian students. They focused especially on our academic programme and also talked a lot about Galway and it's friendly atmosphere.

This is what the Focus Group Brazil had to say:

Focus Group Brazil 2009

Our School
In general all questioned students think there are big differences between the teachers
Especially in the first weeks it was quite hard for some of them to get used to the personal dialects of some teachers
All wish more advise by the teachers about their mistakes but also about literature they could read to improve their English
Tuition
Two students think that grammar exercises are repeated to often. Instead, they suggest a special grammar lesson, once per months for instance.
They all think that the weekly test on Friday should be done in the second half of the classes because all students feel tired after the pub night on Thursday evening
They all think it is important that teachers are optimally prepared for the lessons
School Facilities
The using time for the computers in the computer lab should be controlled better so that all students have a chance to use the internet.
All think there could be even more books and DVDs in the library
Social Activities
They suggest that teachers should accompany the students on the weekend tours
Especially the boys wish more sports, i.e. Bowling or Minigolf could be organised more often
Others suggested to have even more international events at the school, they really loved the International Food Day
Accommodation
They were all pleased with their host families but wish more information about Galway, the school and host family accommodation before arrival

If I hadn't be to Atlantic my English wouldn't be as good as it is now. It really helped me a lot.

As a Brazilian in Ireland I feel fine. I enjoy living here. At the start it was a bit difficult because of the diffierent culture but I got used to it and I really like it.

The facilities of the school are great. I like the extra classes and the weekend tours and also the library, the wireless internet access and the friendly staff.

Galway is a lovely international town . Atlantic has an excellent structure and the staff is always prepared to help.
When I come back to Brazil I will only have good memories of the teachers, the students and the good pubs in Galway
