Focus Group Germany

This time Caroline met five German students in a small coffee shop downtown. They were especially interested in talking about our academic programme, the school apartments and the international atmosphere in Galway.

This is what the Focus Group Germany had to say:

My class is good fun. All students are very kind and help each other. The most important thing is that we like to learn and to laugh - just like our friendly and professional teacher.
My favorite social activity last week was the trip to the Aran Islands. There I fell in love with Ireland. Maybe forever.

The facilities of the school are good. There is everything you need. The staff are friendly and helpful. At the school I like in particular the international and warm atmosphere.

I would recommend Atlantic Language to all people who are interested in studying English in a warm and welcoming atmosphere and who want to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Irelands West.

I'm here for the third time and I will return a fourth time in spring.

Gilbert GERNDT, Krefeld

My stay here was great. I really enjoyed it. I would also like to thank my host mother who always helped me with my homework and who cooked delicious meals for me.

Wolfgang SCHNEIIDER
Standard General English (GE1)

I was very happy at the school. I tried so many different ways to improve my English. Here at Atlantic I have really the feeling that it is working.  I will keep on working on my English back in Germany.

Why Galway/ Ireland?
One student studies at the uni in Kassel which is holding a partnership with NUIG
To improve the current work situation at home
To prepare to become an English teacher in Germany
To prepare working in an international company in Switzerland
Because Irish people are known as very open and sociable
Classes and the school
Sometimes when there are 12 students in a class there are language level gaps between the students. Smaller classes are recommended.
There could be more writing exercises
When speaking they wish that students correct them more
Class rooms are laid out well but could be a bit bigger
Accommodation
3 stayed in school apartments, 2 stayed with an Irish host family
In general the host families were commented very positive
Some host families live a bit too far out
the school apartments are nice and spacious
They wish a better organisation of the cleaning procedure
Social Activities
They wish the school to organise even more international events (i.e. International Food Day)
They wish to meet more locals
Recommendations & Suggestions
School & Tuition
It would be great to be able to do a pre-level test on the website
They suggest mini-learning groups (not more than 5 students) for the afternoon
Social Acitities
They suggest to organise a coffee-afternoon with Galwegians once per month
