Focus Group Japan

With the Japanese students I met in a little café just beside our school to speak about the Japanese studiousness and our beautiful city.

This is what the Focus Group Japan had to say:

Focus Group Japan

Our School
They are very happy with their teachers
They wish the teachers to encourage all students to talk English
Tuition
My focus group said that it is hard for Japanese people to speak or ask something in class as they were raised in a very different way to European students. They generally have very good grammar skills but are very shy about speaking
The conversation topics are always oriented on western interests and topics
They wish  more international topics
When doing pairwork it sometimes happens that  not every pair can be checked and corrected. I explained to them that even if they are not always checked these excercises are important for practising speaking to overcome language barriers.
School Facilities
The free Wifi connection is very handy as you can use it until the evening so that they can contact their friends and family at home.
In the library they would like to have more space to read there and there could be even more books
They are all very interested in Celtic stories and traditions : They would like to read more about Irish culture and myths
They would like to have an assistant in the library to  correct their exercises they do in the rentable study books.
Social Activities
They all don't join a lot of activities as they only want to study, study, study....
They wish to have Irish dancing classes and they love the Celtic story telling
Accommodation
Students in schoolapartments think they are confortable and well equipped.
They had a little problem with the Irish shower system but this problem was solved very soon
They were not sure who to contact in an emergency. I recommended them to call our school emergency number which is active 24 hours
Suggestions and recommendations
It would be very important for them if the teachers would be advised to make Japanese students speak more
They suggested a pronunciation class for specific nationalities every month or so
Irish Dancing once per week would be a good idea

Galway is a cozy and relaxed city. It's more laid back than other bigger cities in Ireland. It's so easy to meet people. I think in Ireland west you can learn more about the Irish culture and myths.

The location at the seaside is perfect . You can walk at the prom and enjoy live in the city centre. The city is not too big. Everything is in a confortable distance .Even if it's so small Galway is so cosmopolitan. There are so many international restaurants and people from all over the world.

What I like about Galway is the good mix between city life and country side and that life is not too expensive.
