How to prepare for your online classes

To make the most of your online learning experience, you only need TWO THINGS:

  • Log in from a quiet space and use headphones when possible: background noises are disruptive.
  • Work at a desk. If using your smartphone, stand it up. Don’t move around, which distracts your teacher and classmates.
  • Switch on your video and switch on the light. English teachers need to see students’ faces.
  • Make sure your Zoom profile shows your real name and surname.
  • Don’t depend on bad internet! It freezes your camera and it is difficult for your teacher and class to communicate with you. If possible, use good cable or Wi-Fi and disconnect other devices.
  • Be prepared! Do your homework, have your coursebook and notebook next to you.
  • When the teacher gives the opportunity, speak as much as you can. Participate in group discussions and show interest in your classmates’ opinions and ideas.
  • Communicate with your teacher on Chat if you have technical problems or need a break.
  • Not everyone can speak at the same time.  Introduce your comments by saying:
“Excuse me teacher, it’s Maria. I have a question.” or “It’s Fernando, can I say something?”
  • Don’t be late! Students who arrive 15 minutes or more late can NOT join class.
